Less distress and fear, more focus on life outside of your own mind

I’m Rhiannon, a Metacognitive & Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist

I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Metacognitive therapy to help guide you away from overthinking, anticipating and over-monitoring, back to having the flexibility of attention to live life, not battle through it.

CBT can be described as practical therapy where you can take control of the changes you wish to make. I find this approach to be particularly helpful if you feel your world has become smaller due to your mental health. Focusing on behaviour change and reducing avoidance can open up possibilities where fear and/or critical beliefs get in the way. If you’re struggling with mental rituals and/or compulsions, I would encourage that therapy goals are Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) driven. I aim to work collaboratively with you to put your values before fear in a way that gives you more freedom.

MCT is a type of cognitive therapy that focuses on your ‘thinking about thinking’ processes. If you spend a lot of time worrying, ruminating, analysing, threat monitoring or engaging in compulsions then MCT can help to decrease the amount of time you spend giving attention to these processes. This can lead to a decrease in anticipation, emotional distress, hyperawareness, physical symptoms of anxiety, tension and more space to focus your attention elsewhere.

I am dedicated to continue to learn and grow as a therapist in the best interests of any individual I work with. I know that learning benefits my own mental well-being and I prioritise this as a way of looking after myself too. I regularly develop my professional knowledge to adhere to the standards of the BABCP and out of personal interest and commitment.

If you would like to know more about whether therapy with me is right for you, please book a consultation and we can talk it through together.
